I’ve been working with wood as long as I can remember. From making key holders in Cub Scouts and building forts with my friends to making crazy string-art works as a teenager! I eventually got a degree in technical theatre and spent 10+ years working in different scene shops across the country. Then I jumped to graphic design and spent my career still creating things – but now out of paper – design and print production of brochures and packaging for a wide range of local and global clients. All along I kept a foot in my woodshop doing personal projects or work for friends.

Now I spend more of my time puttering, it’s really what I was made for. But a lot of that puttering is done in my shop. It simply makes me happy to be making things with my hands, and pondering out how best to do that. It’s a good process that sometimes requires another cup of coffee or a walk along the beach.

So, what’s with the name? The words Pinecone Moon are first about a literal scene – one of my favorite times is watching as the full moon rises through the trees to the east of my shop. Philosophically – the moon waning and waxing, the cones dispersing seeds – it all reminds me of process and the need to trust it. It puts me in the right headspace.

Though I do not believe that a plant
will spring up where no seed has been,
I have great faith in a seed.
Convince me that you have a seed there,
and I am prepared to expect wonders.
